Shaun Matthew studied the tuba at the Junior Guildhall School of Music & Drama and thern at the Royal Northern College of Music from 1991 to 1995 under Stuart Roebuck and Andrew Duncan. He studied conducting at the RNCM from 1992 with Timothy Reynish and Edward Warren, which culminated in his being awarded the Mortimer Fruber Prize for conducting. Shaum has worked with many leading orchestras in the north of England, including the BBC Philharmonic, the Stockport Symphony Orchestra and thge Huddersfield Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been the Nusical Director of the Scarborough Symphony Orchestra since 2005. He has performed with many different ensembles as a tubist including Orquesta Timbala, Toolshed and many of the orchestras of the north of England. Shaum is currently Professor of Tuba at the University of York.
