Claire Jowett was born in Leeds and studied music at the University College of Ripon and York St John. Her musical experience is considerable and wide ranging, as orchestral player, singer, chamber musician and teacher.
She is currently leader of both York Symphony Orchestra and the Academy of St. Olave’s, and in addition plays in several other ensembles including the City of York Guildhall Orchestra and the York Opera Orchestra.
As well as an instrumentalist, Claire is also a notable singer, and one of the founder members of the choir York Cantores.
Claire is also a well-known teacher in the area, teaching both violin and viola at Bootham, Pocklington and the Mount schools.
